Portugal

Updated: Feb 3, 2019

June is not exactly the best month for hot soup, but since today is Portugal's National Day (also known as Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities), I figured I would make the one Portuguese dish I already know how to make.

This meal is the first meal for this project that I've cooked in our new kitchen! I miss the natural light of our old kitchen, but I do appreciate having a gas stove again. The soup I made is called caldo verde, Portuguese for "green broth." It's made from potatoes, greens (I used kale), and chorizo. This soup could be considered a national dish for Portugal, and it's also commonly eaten in places with large numbers of Portuguese, like Brazil.

I didn't take many pictures of the process, since it's a very simple soup with so few ingredients.
