Albania

In Albania, March 14 is celebrated as Dita e Verës (Summer Day). Meanwhile, it snowed literally all day in Vermont. The tradition on this day is to bake ballokume elbasani, which are cookies made with finely ground cornmeal. They tasted like very sweet cornbread, but I'm not entirely sure I made them correctly, since all the recipes I could find were in Albanian or poorly translated English. They weren't too bad, though.


I also made one of Albania's national dishes, Fergesë e Tiranës me piperka. It's made with roasted red peppers, tomatoes, and onions baked with a feta and Greek yogurt sauce.
